Tidal and Web energy
Bangladesh has little prospect of tidal power. Several attempts have been made to explore tidal power in Bangladesh. Recently Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in collaboration with Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) have installed seven tidal gauge monitoring stations near St. Martin’s Island. Average tidal heights for those stations were found between 1-2 meters. But a mean head of at least five meters is usually considered to be the minimum for viable tidal power generation. However there is a scope of further research at the estuaries of main rivers. |
