Harnessing of renewable energy stressed

A daylong workshop on "Sustainable Development Initiatives through Renewable Energy Technologies" was held in the LGED seminar room yesterday. Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Minister of Science and Information and communication Technology was the chief guest at the workshop, Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Forest Sabihuddin Ahmed, Ms. Shireen Kamal Sayeed, Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP, Bangladesh and Quamrul Islam Siddique, Executive Director, Dhaka Transport Coordination Board and President IEB were present as special guests. The workshop was presided over by the Chief Engineer, LGED Md. Shahidul Hassan, says a press release.

Earlier, Q.I. Siddique in his speech said that LGED needs to establish more rapport with other agencies for research and data collection in the field of renewable energy. The data collected in this regard is far below comparing to India, Mr. siddique said.
Sabihuddin Ahmed said that LGED was playing a pioneer role in the field of sustainable rural energy. UNDP assistant representative Ms. Shreen Kamal Sayeed also addressed the workshop.

Md. Tazmilur Rahman, Project Manager, SRE, LGED made the address of welcome. Leading experts on sustainable renewable energy technologies attended the daylong workshop.

In his speech as chairperson, Chief Engineer of LGED said..........................
He said that LGED has a success history to install one thousand biogas plants at the remote areas which are now in operation. He disclosed that first time LGED has installed electricity generation unit from poultry waste at Faridpur which is generating 4.5 Kw power.

Renewable energy can ease power crisis'

Renewable energy and alternative power generation can be a viable option to meet off-grid rural demand and soothe persistent power crisis in the country, participants said at a workshop in the city on Monday.

Shireen Kamal, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP, said Bangladesh could succeed in generating sustainable rural power to in offshore area through alternative means like micro-hydro project, solar and wind power.

LGED workshop on renewable energy held

A daylong workshop on " Sustainable Development Initiatives through Renewable Energy Technologies" was held in the LGED seminar room yesterday, says a press release.

Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Forest Sabihuddin Ahmed, Ms. Shireen Kamal Sayeed, Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP, Bangladesh and Quamrul Islam Siddique, Executive Director, Dhaka Transport Coordination Board and President IEB were present as special guests.
The workshop was presided over by the Chief Engineer, LGED Md. Shahidul Hasssan. In his inaugural speech Dr. Moin Khan said that the efforts undertaken by LGED towards Sustainable Development initiatives through renewable energy technologies are praiseworthy. He reminded one of the constitutional obligations is that of providing electricity to the rural people of Bangladesh.
